The Flöge sisters-Emilie, Helene, and Pauline-owned the most elegant fashion salon in Vienna circa 1900. Emilie was the companion and muse of the painter Gustav Klimt, who presented this box to her as a gift. According to the archives of the Wiener Werkstätte, only two of these boxes were ever produced.
